A sneak peak into all the excitement this past Friday at the Cape Floor Expo at @the_building_centre - the Cape Vinyl Installation Challenge! Stay tuned for more.

We are DELIGHTED to announce the six finalists in

We are DELIGHTED to announce the six finalists in the Cape Vinyl Installation Challenge, with the finale taking place at the Cape Floor Expo, Fri 13 Mar 2026 at @the_building_centre. Challengers work in teams of two from 9am until 2pm, with the winner being announced 230pm on the Demo Stage.

A huge congrats to @durastyle_flooring, @hideflooringcpt, @iqpflooring, @majesticflooringandcarpets, @topcarpetsconstantiaberg, and @wcflooringspecialist.

The teams will work in designated installation bays, with a variety of floating and glue down vinyl challenges, including herringbone, pattern work, some stairs, trims and the old favourite - the toilet pot!

Come and support installation excellence for this fun and exciting challenge! There will be 40 exhibitors, 3 food trucks plus Boerie rolls, Vida, and the DK Sea Scouts selling energy drinks as a fundraiser.

The Cape Vinyl Installation Challenge is a live, skills-based competition showcasing the Cape’s top vinyl installation teams.

Six finalist teams, as nominated by exhibitors, will compete in a purpose-built 3×3m training booth, completing a real-world installation challenge featuring:
🏆 Large-format floating vinyl planks
🏆 Herringbone pattern work in glue-down vinyl herringbone planks
🏆 Precision fitting around obstacles
🏆 Step and trim detailing
🏆 Professional finish under time pressure

This is not a speed race — it’s a craftsmanship challenge judged on quality, accuracy, planning, and professionalism.

Finalists compete live on the Expo floor in front of judges and visitors, using their own tools yet with standard supplies provided to each team.

Judging criteria:
✅ Technical quality and finish (50%)
✅ Pattern accuracy and complexity (20%)
✅ Time management and workflow (15%)
✅ Preparation and layout planning (10%)
✅ Safety and professionalism (5%)

Join us at @the_building_centre for the Cape Floor Expo and share the fun, while supporting excellence! 40 exhibitors, expo is open to the public and free to attend, food and drinks from food trucks and refreshment stations.

There is just over one month to go to the Cape Floor Expo 2026! Hosted at @the_building_centre, we have an incredible line up of exhibitors across all facets of the flooring industry, food trucks, a demo stage, and the inaugural Cape Vinyl Installation Challenge. Plus architects and other professionals will engage with six CPD presentations and exhibitors in a day dedicated to learning and connecting.
